The most iconic wine from Ravasqueira, Vinha das Romãs, received great praise in the latest edition of the Concours Mondial de Bruxelles wine competition. It was awarded the Grand Gold Medal and the Revelation Red Wine of Portugal.

The Concours Mondial de Bruxelles competition reached its 30th edition this year and is considered one of the most prestigious global wine competitions, with over 7,500 wines competing. Portugal had a significant participation, with 900 registered wines, but the best Portuguese red wine in the competition was Vinha das Romãs 2020 Tinto, which received the title of "Revelation Red Wine of Portugal" and a Grand Gold Medal - which, according to the competition's criteria, designates a score above 91/92 out of 100.

The competition took place a few days ago in Poreč, Croatia. The results have just been revealed, and Portugal stands out with a very good ratio of medals - specifically 337 medals for 900 registered wines. In addition to the Revelation Award, Ravasqueira received 5 Gold Medals for Vinha da Coutada Velha Tinto 2022, Encantado Branco 2022, Mocho Galego Signature Tinto 2022, Guarda Rios Gold Edition Tinto 2022, Dona Vitória Premium Tinto 2022, and Dona Vitória Grande Escolha Branco 2022.

The organization, which has an extensive international jury, maintains a very rigorous medal assignment process, and the increasing quality of Ravasqueira wines and Portuguese wines, in general, has been highlighted.

According to David Baverstock, Chief Winemaker at Ravasqueira, "It is a great honor to receive these medals that validate the work carried out by our team, in different brands and wine styles. Obviously, we cannot help but feel particularly honored to see Vinha das Romãs Tinto once again at the top of international specialists, as a unique wine that year after year continues to prove its consistency and quality as an icon of Portugal and the Alentejo region."

Vinha das Romãs is a single vineyard born where there used to be a pomegranate orchard. In these 7.5 hectares of unique soil, designed for precision viticulture, Touriga Franca and Syrah vines were planted and their roots got intertwined with the roots of the pomegranate trees that remained enriching the soil. Years later, Vinha das Romãs was born, a special blend that is recognized and widely appreciated.

This blend of Touriga Franca and Syrah spent 20 months in new French oak barrels, presents, as David Baverstock describes, "a dense dark red and opaque color. The nose, at first, is closed. Then it becomes complex with black fruits, cedar, berries, a mix of spices, and cardamom. On the palate, it is meaty with solid and increasing tannins, but fine and elegant in the finish. It has a lot of freshness and a granitic mineral finish."
